All institutions which meet registration requirements are listed on the publicly available Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).Australia is firmly committed in providing quality education and training and offers strong assurances to international students. Every provider that seeks to recruit, enroll or teach overseas students, or to advertise their ability to do so, must be registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).

Education System
University
There are 41 universities in Australian which offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in traditional and modern subject areas such as innovative courses in IT, electronic business and science. Australian academics have won prestigious awards, including several Nobel Prizes, and are involved in ground-breaking research. All Australian universities are strictly monitored to maintain high standards in teaching and research. Most of these universities are located in cities, while some are found in rural environments.



Universities offer courses in a wide range of areas at the following levels:

⦁    Graduate Certificate
⦁    Graduate Diploma
⦁    Masters Degree
⦁    Doctorate (PhD)
Each university has its own entrance requirements for each course offered. You will also need to have a minimum level of English before you can start a course.

Most courses start in February, however, some may also start in July and October.

TAFE
Australian Technical and Further Education (TAFE) is a government owned and operated education system that offers courses in almost every field of study. There are more than 230 government TAFE colleges around Australia that offer courses at certificate, diploma and advanced diploma levels. Many TAFE courses will lead to credit transfer arrangements at Australian universities so you can earn credit towards a bachelors degree. Some TAFE courses are only a few weeks while others may take up to three years to complete. Some TAFE colleges are located in cities, while others are in rural areas. Most courses start in February, however, some may also start in July. TAFE courses emphasize practical and professional learning that will help you get a job.
Private and Specialist Colleges
Private and Specialist colleges offer courses in almost every area of study, usually at certificate, diploma and advanced diploma level. These courses are often designed to teach practical skills you can use in the workforce. Courses can range from 10 weeks to 3 years, and each college will have its own entrance requirements. Many private and specialist colleges have credit transfer arrangements with universities so you can earn credit towards a bachelors degree.

High Schools

Australian schools offer quality education at world class standards. Each State or Territory in Australia is responsible for its own schools however the Australian Federal Government ensures the standards and quality of teaching are maintained throughout the country.

The majority of Australian schools are public and approximately one quarter are private and charge full fees. Many private schools are run by religious institutions. Some schools offer boarding facilities.

Vocational Education and Training in Australia (VET)
Australian vocational education and training courses provide students with skills that employers have identified as important in the workplace. They are also generally considered to provide more practical, work-orientated skills.
The types of qualifications that can be obtained through the VET system include:
⦁    Certificate I–IV:these courses are designed to provide introductory skills and training. They provide industry-specific knowledge and skills in communication, participation, literacy and numeracy, and teamwork. They vary in length from a few weeks to six or more months.
⦁    Diploma:a diploma course prepares students for industry, enterprise and para-professional careers. Diploma courses can be completed at TAFE institutes and private colleges. Diplomas require 18 to 24 months of full-time study.
⦁    Advanced diploma:an advanced diploma provides a high level of practical skills for employment in a specific career area, such as accounting, building design, and engineering. Advanced diplomas vary in length from 24 to 36 months.
⦁    Vocational graduate certificate/diploma:the vocational graduate certificate and diploma are the equivalent of the higher education graduate certificate or diploma. They provide high level employment-related skills and knowledge. The graduate certificate usually requires six months of full-time study and the graduate diploma usually requires one year of full-time study.
Types of degrees
Undergraduate Studies : Bachelor programmes may vary from 3 to 4 years.

Postgraduate Studies:Australia offers a wide variety of choices for post graduate studies . Australian Universities pride themselves on a strong research base and state of the art equipment to their Universities.    


Application Procedure

Intakes
Australia generally has two intakes i.e. February and July, with few Universities offering multiple intake in September & November. University generally takes around 3-6 weeks to process the applications.

Postgraduate – Masters

1. A good academic record in Bachelors Degree from a recognized university is necessary
2. Any work experience in the field
3. 6.5 IELTS    
Work During Studies
Students can work up to 20 hours per week while your course is in session. However, you cannot start work until you have commenced your course in Australia.

International students often find work in retail, hospitality and administration. You could expect to earn A$6-15 an hour, depending on the kind of work you do

Accomodation
There are number of accommodation options available for students studying in Australia.

Most universities and TAFE colleges operate housing offices to assist students with accommodation.


Students can choose from the following options.    

Homestay
Homestay is a great way for younger international students to immerse themselves in Australian life.. Meals are usually included in the cost, but self-catering Homestay is sometimes available.

A$110-A$270 a week


Single or shared rooms may be offered and the cost may vary accordingly.


Shared or Rental Accomodation


Sharing off-campus accommodation is very popular with international students. You should look for advertisements on campus noticeboards and local newspapers.



A$70-A$350 a week








Students can also rent an apartment or house. Rents vary depending on the location, size and facilities. Many students in Australia live in an apartment or a house with other students, sharing the cost of gas, electricity and sometimes food. The student will be expected to pay one month advance payment and some security deposit.


University Accommodation

A$80–250 per week

Most universities and some vocational institutions offer a variety of accommodation on or near campus, such as apartments, residential colleges or halls of residence. The cost varies on the type of accommodation.


Residential colleges are slightly more expensive and provide accommodation with meals. They may also have sporting and social facilities, tutoring, libraries and computer facilities.


Halls of residence are located on or near institution campuses. Students usually have meals and some cleaning services provided. Students need to apply early because demand for places is high.


Here, students have a bedroom/study of their own, and will share bathrooms, laundries and recreational facilities. Some universities may offer apartments. However, the cost would be higher.
